Strawberry Mai Tai cocktail
- ¼oz simple syrup (brown sugar 2:1)
- ¼oz orgeat
- ¾oz lime juice
- 3 medium strawberries
- 2 dashes angostura bitters
- 1oz light/gold rum (Flor de Caña)
- ½oz Jamaican rum, high proof
- ½oz bourbon, high proof
Muddle the strawberries with the syrups and lime. Add spirits and shake well. Serve over ice in an old fashioned glass. Garnish: strawberries, or spent lime shells.
Things to try:
- Add back the ½oz triple sec that would be in a normal Mai Tai.
- Add a dash of maraschino liqueur.
Nutty variant
Replace the orgeat with amaretto. Reduce light rum to ¾oz, increase bourbon to ¾oz.
Bit less good.
Frozen variant
- ¼oz simple syrup (brown sugar 2:1)
- ¼oz orgeat
- ¾oz lime juice
- 6 medium strawberries
- ¼oz triple sec
- 2 dashes angostura bitters
- 1½oz light/gold rum (Flor de Caña)
- ½oz Jamaican rum, high proof
- 3 ice cubes
Throw all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Serve in a chilled Collins glass.
